Queen of Wands
Well, there she is front and center on this card, my little black cat, Gemmi , my little familiar, my spiritual companion in animal form. Gemmi came into my life despite my protests that I didn’t want another cat. But the universe had other ideas. So I got a call to rescue this kitten and she quickly became part of my heart. I tell people “every good witch needs a black cat”. Wherever I am in the house, Gemmi is right there helping me. Now, she is again ready to help me write about this card.
The Queen of Wands is sitting on her throne with staff in hand, ready to stand up and take action. This fire queen has an air of surety and decisiveness. She has the pyramids to her right, indicating her actions have substance and lasting value. She sits on the lion headed throne with fiery-tailed lions on the tapestry panel behind her; she is on a seat of power. In her right hand she holds the living wand. She has honed her skills to the highest level. In her left hand is a sunflower in full bloom. Sunflowers turn their face to the sun and follow the sun’s fiery path throughout the day. They symbolize loyalty and longevity. This is the summer queen, shining bright in her full glory. She has no doubts about what she has achieved and what she wants to do next.
And what about her cat. This cat is staring right at us, unflinching and ready to accompany you to the depths. She may have had some bad press in the past, but this cat is here to do her duty and bring the shadow, unconscious actions, to light to bring the queen’s full power into the world. The queen isn’t so much about seeking worldly or spiritual power as the King of Wands. Rather she is residing in her own power of her accomplishments and uses her skills to better those around her and her own life.
Where do you need to use your hard-earned skills and take action? What needs your warmth and enthusiasm? Where should you take a closer look, when things might not be as they appear? What needs attention? Where do you need to stand in your power with good boundaries and determination?
The wand queen uses her power and fiery enthusiasm with care and consideration so that she doesn’t burn up anything or burn herself out. She uses her darling cat companion to keep a look out for where she needs to use her power, skills and joy for good. I’m in a “queen of wands” stage of life. I’m now the matriarch and I feel called to gather the family and encourage the younger generation with enthusiasm and joy. Thank goodness I have my Gemmi to remind me to also look inside and keep me company while I make my plans.
